Is It Time for New Tires?
Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that touches the road, making them absolutely critical for your safety. But how do you know when it's time to replace them? Here are five warning signs you shouldn't ignore.
1. Tread Depth Below 2/32"
The most obvious sign is worn tread. Use the penny test: insert a penny into your tread groove with Lincoln's head facing down. If you can see all of Lincoln's head, your tread is below 2/32" and it's time for new tires.
2. Visible Cracks or Bulges
Sidewall cracks, cuts, or bulges are serious safety hazards. These indicate structural damage that can lead to a blowout.
3. Vibration While Driving
Excessive vibration can signal tire imbalance, misalignment, or internal tire damage. If your car shakes while driving, have it inspected immediately.
4. Age Over 6 Years
Even if tires look fine, rubber degrades over time. Most manufacturers recommend replacing tires every 6 years regardless of appearance.
5. Frequent Pressure Loss
If you're constantly adding air, you may have a slow leak or damaged tire that needs replacement.
